Immigrant Education
GPUSD procedures to provide enhanced instructional opportunities to eligible immigrant children and youth.
Parent Outreach
Through Parent Advisory and English Learner Advisor Committee meetings, GPUSD informs English Learner and immigrant families about the academic achievement and language progress of their children, and gathers parent input on how to improve our services.
Our immigrant program is discussed and reviewed periodically at theses meetings, in which valuable information is shared.
Professional Development
GPUSD plans and develops professional development on English Language Development standards, the EL Roadmap throughout the school year.
In PLCs, teachers and admin monitor English Learners, immigrant students, to provide additional support.
Purpose
The GPUSD Immigrant Program provides enhanced instructional opportunities and services to eligible immigrant children and you.
Immigrant Children and Family Identification
At the start of the year, schools in GPUSD send out letters inviting parents to attend Parent Advisory and English Learner Advisory Committee meetings (a calendar is included with the letter). An Immigrant Program brochure is included with the letter, providing an overview of immigrant services and contact information.
Also at the start of the year, Immigrant students are identified through a survey. At present GPUSD has 47 qualified immigrant students.
